Fred Thomas of A-D Racing signed up for Crank the Kank in March of this year and thus was able to participate in this iconic hill climb that runs 21 miles up the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Two hundred riders turned up for the event and were greeted with temperatures in the 60s, dry conditions and some light wind. The course requires a time trial bike and so Fred was riding his tt Carbon Limited Dura-Ace 9000 XeNTiS Mark 2 TT Disc running Vittoria Corsa G3 tires. Fred commented, "I rode the course the previous weekend and knew that I could make good time over the first fifteen miles. The last section was tough and I just went as hard as I could. I am very pleased with the result and very surprised to have been able to do it under one hour. Probably the peak of my career!" Fred completed the course with a time of 59:35 which was fast enough to win the day. Many thanks to Kennett High School (New Hampshire) Mountain Bike Team, the Mount Washington Valley Bicycling Club, the U.S. Forest Service - White Mountain National Forest and the many other sponsors for putting on a great event, and to Chris Darling for keeping everything running smoothly. @Fred Thomas of A-D Racing previewed the Crank the Kank 21 mile time trial course on his tt Carbon Limited Dura-Ace 9000 XeNTiS Mark 2 TT Disc last weekend and had this to say: "The first twelve miles or so is a gradual uphill, with a section where it flattens out before hitting the six miles of climbing. That last part is going to be tough...at least I have a better feel for the course, which is half the battle in a time trial." Weather is looking good for this iconic event and it is a great excuse to get out to the White Mountains.
