Faris Al-Sultan did his first Ironman of 2012 in the capital of Sri Lanka. Some parts of the race were pretty adventurous. It seems that the biggest challenge was to find the right course.

Faris had this problems too. But in the first discipline everything ran pretty well for him. He led the small pro field already in the water. Also on the bike it worked well for him. Together with the New Zealander Bryan Rhodes Faris increased the gap to the chasers. Here the orientation problems started. In the end Faris lost Rhodes but still changed on the second place to the run.

Faris run form is well after he had some great session with his teammates in Abu Dhabi. So he could overtake the New Zealander and won without any doubt with the fastest run split of the day.

After the awards he will fly back to Abu Dhabi. There is the official team training camp where he will support some amateurs. Faris next competition will be one of his main ones – the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon on March 3rd.

There are just a few weeks to go…..

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority is currently working hard to create another extra-ordinary triathlon event for the third year in sucession.
We are proud to be part of this event and also to present our new team members in Abu Dhabi on March 3rd. All in all there will be 7 athletes from our team on the starting line. Beside the “old” ones as Faris Al-Sultan, Kristin Möller, Paul Ambrose and Swen Sundberg there will be 3 new hungry athletes.

Jodie Swallow – the English Power House
With her 30 years of age Jodie can already look back on a more than successful athletic career. Everything started with swimming and cross-country running where she won her first titles. Of course these are the best attributes with which to start a triathlon career. At the beginning she raced short distance races where qualifed for the Olympic games in Athens in 2004. She then continued her journey with longer distance events and again she set the world on fire. The Ironman 70.3 World Championship title 2010 was just one of her highlights. After a long term injury she is back and has already proved at the Ironman 70.3 South Africa that she is even stronger than before. In Abu Dhabi she will race for the first time in the team colours. Her schedule for 2012 includes also full Ironman races – a new experience for Jodie.

Maik Twelsiek – The German Cycling Machine
The nickname of the 31-year old German already declares a lot about his qualities, he is great top athlete, not only on a bike, but also in the other disciplines. 2 Ironman titles and many great results clarifiy this point. A while ago Maik moved to Tucson, Arizona. The reason for this was not only for the good training conditions, but also for his American wife. After changing his coach he would like to continue his road to the front, at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. A 12th place in Kona is already on his resume.

Jeremy Jurkiewicz – the French Gourmet
The youngest in the team comes from France. Though his name does not sound like that. The qualified cook is just 23 years old and is new to the triathlon business. Despite this he already has an Ironman title on his account. Last year the French swimming specialist won the long distance race in Wales, something many other athletes have to wait their entire career to achieve. In 2012 Jeremy would like to qualify for the Ironman World Championships, though he has some years to fulfil that goal.

Now the season for the Team Abu Dhabi Triathlon is over!

After a successfull and exciting year the team can draw a balance after the 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships and the Ironman Western Australia after the past weekend. Kristin got 11th in Austrlia with 10:07 h, but contended with a cold. Paul showed a strong show on the bike split in Phuket but he ranked "only" on the 7th place. It rained cats and dogs therefore the race was very hard for Faris and he came on the 13th. However a respectable result after the exertions at the Worlds in Hawaii.

It was a long season with many highlights. Rachel Joyce placed 2nd early in the beginning of the season at the Ironman South Africa, distanced the competitors at the Ironman Lanzarote (ESP), was 4.th in Hawaii und crowend herself to the ITU Long Distance World Champion.

Faris took the European Champion in Frankfurt (GER) in an impressive way and ranked in the top-ten in Hawaii. Kristin Möller crowend her triathlon career with two Ironman victories till now! Swen Sundberg achieved very good results in many 70.3 Ironman and closed the gap to the world-class level again after his injury in summer.

Jan van Berkel, Netherlands aspirant for Olympia, convinced with victories in the Pan Amerika Cup and got good results at the WCS series. Paul Ambrose, living in America, was a class of his own at the 70.3 Ironman races in America. Victory at the 70.3 Racine and 2nd place at the 70.3 Mooseman.

For the team a few days for recovery it might be necessary the next days, to tackle the 2012 season with new power and motivation. Swen, Kristin as well as Faris will fight vor big points on the 19.02.2012 at the Ironman Sri Lanka. Afterwards it will continue wit the 70.3 South Africa, before they move to the Abu Dhabi triathlon.

A real highlight for Age-Group athletes is the official Training Camp, which is organized by the team in February and March 2012. More infos you may get here.
Before that there will be a charity race on the ergometer, where the athletes will fight against the boat in context of the Volvo Ocean Race in Abu Dhabi.

We wish the team furthermore all the best for the future and look forward to share wonderful emotions also with the fans in 2012.

In the preparation everything ran his way for Swen, so he was top motivated and well adjusted for the hard Ironman on the Mexican Island. He struggled very well through the water and was satisfied with his time. Still after the half of the bike split he noticed stomach problems, which he ignored first. The speed a little bit slowed he lost hardly any time to the leading group. Therefore he sliped into his running shoes and got on the very good 4th place. But 10 kilometers before the finish line he wasn’t able to get further, because of stomach and circulation problems and to set one step forward. Swen asked for medical aid during the race and accepted that this had no sense, although the mind said something different.

Now he is on the way of amelioration to look in the future with optimism.

With KAPPA 2 the Austrian carbon specialist XeNTiS is setting new standards in the
MTB sector, especially when it comes to resistance and performance. The combination
of a reduced rim height (35 mm), the low weight (1.340 g per set) and a clincher carbon
system guarantees the usability and nearly indestructibility for any adventure. The
KAPPA 2 off road wheel, produced in a monocoque form, is unique in its style.
Climbing up and driving down the mountains it proves its receptivity and shock resistance.
During braking there is no hesitation of the turning moment so a break or rip
of the spokes becomes impossible.

Styles of KAPPA 2

The new KAPPA 2 is available in the styles Standard and CC. While the KAPPA 2 CC is an absolute Cross Country wheel, the all mountain terrain is home to Standard KAPPA 2. In a special construction the KAPPA 2 is available as a lefty version and also with a 20 mm quick release axle.

Furthermore the new KAPPA 2 is compatible with tubeless wheels as well as clincher wheels and can be fixed by quick release axle from 100 to 135 mm. It is also planned to modify the front wheel hub to QR15 and the rear wheel hub to X12 Standard (142 mm).

The Austrian Carbon specialist XeNTiS is landing on spot within the triathlon sport with its new 5 spokes technology in point of design, performance and speed. The new high end triathlon weapon MARK2 TT shows through various wind channel tests values never recorded before regarding side forces.

It all goes along with further improved values regarding aerodynamics. Thanks to the 5 spokes technology the well known XeNTiS reduced aero drag in crosswinds is guaranteed and an excellent rolling efficiency is shown. The ideal wheel for ambitious hobby athletes and professional athletes.

With a rim height of 65 mm and a weight of 1.710 gram the best proportion between rolling
efficiency and side wind sensitivity was precisely worked out. The MARK2 TT is available in clincher and tubular version and is the ultimate wheel for difficult wind conditions together with top braking conditions in wet or dry conditions.

The unique XeNTiS Monocoque construction method is used and guarantees for stability
paired with monocoque building. Additionally a spokes magnet for all common products is
integrated. A RFID chip rounds up the technical package.

Moreover a XeNTiS designed hub is built into the wheel, which is compatible for Campagnolo as well as Shimano/SRAM, has best rolling conditions and will ease the handling for customers and dealers significantly.

Hardfacts MARK2 TT:

lowest side forces
Reduced aero drag in crosswinds
Aerodynamic performance
UV resistance

The last race of Rachel Joyce` race calendar 2011 underlined and topped her performance of the whole season. In the US-American Henderson she became ITU long distance World Champion!

While you would consider the desert to be always hot, at the Worlds this was exactly the opposite. Because of the cold conditions, as well as the water and the air, the swim was cancelled and the race began with the bike split. These circumstances were not the best for Rachel, because she is one the best in the water. But she indoctrinated the others.

In a 5 second interval the athletes went on the bike course. Rachel sledged out the second best time on the street with her XeNTiS Mark1 TT and lead 3 minutes in front of the nearest competitor Leanda Cave. After the half of the running split she past the leading woman Nikki Butterfield from Australia. Finishing the second running split of the day, she defended her headstart till the finish line and became World Champion! Congratulation Rachel!

With this title Rachel tops a really impressive season:

ITU World Champion long distance

1st Ironman Lanzarote (ESP)

4th Ironman World Championship Hawaii
