The triathlon season slowly speeds up in Europe. Just other continents hosted Ironman races so far. On the upcoming weekend the fight for qualification points for the world championships starts in Europe – on the Balearic island of Mallorca.
The Ironman 70.3 Mallorca takes place in Alcudia which is in the north of the island. The bike course leads along the typical training areas of many triathletes and road bikers. The ascent to the abbey Lluc is almost a legendary climb.
With Kristin Möller and Swen Sundberg Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team will have two hot irons in the fire in Saturday’s race. For Kristin it will be the first serious test this year. She started the season with a race of the Bavarian league in Munich and the German duathlon championships where she placed 3rd. Kristin’s big goal are the world championships on Hawaii. Mallorca will be her first chance to earn some qualification points. As she does not exactly know how her form is she carefully expected a result under the top 5.
Swen showed already a great performance at the “Tage der Wahrheit” in Graz, Austria. But also for him this Ironman 70.3 will be his first big race of the season. The main favourite Michael Raelert form Germany will be pretty hard to be beat. But there will be many candidates for the other top place. Swen hopes to show another good race and to finish in the end also under the top 5.
